can see, the main physical difference from the German variants is the styling of
the soft top. The bed is also different in that the sides are rigid and the troop seats are mounted along the
sides, instead of being in the center of the bed. In the photos below, you can clearly see
the seats hanging on the sides. As the story goes, the Swiss Army wanted to buy the Unimog
S as economically as possible. So they were ordered with no soft top and no bed. Tops and
beds were designed, fabricated and installed by the Army's workshops, thus allowing
customization of the vehicle along with monetary savings.

This is an all original 1962 Swiss Army
Cargo UNIMOG S 404. It has 41,200 km and uses/burns some oil. All of the original
tools and accessories are with the truck. The tires are showing signs of
dry rot. We can replace them with four brand new Continental MPT 81's for
$1,000 or four NOS Firestone Swiss Army tires for $500.
